silenc — The Silent Letters
Silenc is a tangible visualization designed by the interaction design students Manas Karambelkar, Momo Miyazaki and Kenneth A. Robertsen that highlights the silent letters that occur in the Danish, English and French languages. A silent letter is a letter that appears in a particular word, but does not correspond to any sound in the word’s pronunciation.
Copenhagen is in Denmark, the school is Danish, not Norwegian.

Do you agree that authors can (and should) cut the surplus letters from words which do not help with meaning or pronunciation, and often mislead? If so, sign the petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/spellcheckers-the-press-the-public-trial-cutting-out-useless-letters-from-words.
Notice that this definition is more restrictive than “A silent letter is a letter that appears in a particular word, but does not correspond to any sound in the word’s pronunciation.” The e in silence is not pronounced but it does indicate that the c should be pronounced as an /s/ as in “cents” rather than a /k/.
